Scene 6

The class spent the next few classes on rocks and minerals. They were in groups for a web quest activity for several of those days. When test time rolled around, they reviewed for the test as a class, and Keri also helped Chad study during their time together.

After grading the test, Allison was pleased to see that Chad's class did better than her pervious classes had done on the rocks and minerals unit. Chad's scores had improved as well. More than that, however, he seemed happy to be in class and more confident about learning.

The small changes I made must've really had an impact. I'm so glad I collaborated with Kari and Mark! I'll have to start incorporating these ideas in all my class, Allison thought with a smile.

Reflections:

  1. Reflect on a time when a change you made for one student greatly benefited the whole class. What does that say about all students?
  2. The study of rocks and minerals can be boring to many students. What specific aspects of Allison's unit do you think energized the study of geology?
  3. Plan your own unit to incorporate these ideas in your own classroom.
