Summary: Schools with effective behavior systems teach and support expected student behavior, provide rapid, efficient support for at-risk students, and provide high intensity support for serious behavior problems. There are traps that administrators need to avoid. First of all, get tough policies and a more is better philosophy fail to teach the expected behavior for the future. Secondly, administrators should not focus only on the difficult few. The whole school must be addressed. Next, there is no quick fix or one strategy that is effective for reducing problem behaviors.
|
Conclusions: Schoolwide disciplinary systems should emphasize prevention, rapid intervention, and intense supports for intense behavior.
